National Insurance Rise

From April 2022 the rate of National Insurance contributions you pay will change for one year. The amount you contribute will increase by 1.25 percentage points which will be spent on the NHS and social care across the UK.

On 23 March 2022 the UK Government announced at Spring Statement 2022 an increase in National Insurance thresholds for the 2022 to 2023 tax year.

This means employees and self-employed people will pay National Insurance contributions on less of their income or profits.

See below a summary of the changes:

National Insurance Class 1 Secondary contributions  

This is increasing from 13.8% to 15.05% above the secondary threshold of £758.00 per a month on earnings.

Employees National Insurance Class 1 Primary

This is increasing from 12% to 13.25% on earnings above the primary threshold of £823 per month.

Personal Allowance

The personal allowance is also increasing from £12,500 to £12,570
